As a commissioned composer for dance, Venegoni has created scores for the “who’s who” of dance companies and independent choreographers including Robert Moses’ Kin, Janice Garrett & Dancers, and Arturo Fernandez’s Left Coast Dance. His expertise in creating an Asian aesthetic proved to be of great benefit: Venegoni was commissioned to write scores for Alleluia Panis’s Philippine based company, Kulintang Arts, and became Musical Director for Sue Li-Jue’s Facing East Dance & Music.
In recognition of his work, Venegoni received an Isadora Duncan Dance Award (“Izzie”) nomination for his performance in Pai Gow Potluck, from Facing East Dance & Music's production of, Rice Women. Venegoni then won an Izzie for Best Ensemble Performance, recognizing his work with dance artist Robert Moses and cellist Dan Reiter.
Venegoni has produced and directed music and dance concert events for: World Percussive Arts Festival – SF, Stanford University, Hewlett Packard, British Petroleum, The Bechtel Corporation, The Easter Seals Blake Foundation, the Institute for International Studies at Stanford, USGS Pacific Rim Festival, the St. Louis Center for International Relations, Art St. Louis, the Music in Motion quarterly concert series at the New Performance Gallery, and the Bridge Concert Series at ODC Theater.
Venegoni has produced and directed over thirty studio recordings and appears as guest artist on over twenty recordings with such artists as, Fareed Haque, Carl Weingarten, Michael Manring, Todd Mosby and the all improvisational group, Cloud Chamber.
In 1990, Venegoni was invited to Stanford University to conduct an eight (8) week workshop by Dance Director, Diane Frank. That assignment turned into fourteen (14) years as artist in residence with the Dance and Drama Departments.
Additionally, Venegoni has served as a guest artist at The Juilliard School, ODC/SF, U.C. Berkeley, Cal Arts, Washington University, and the University of Arizona, where he worked with both the School of Dance and the Percussion Studies Program at the Fred Fox School of Music.
Venegoni has conducted workshops at the Conservatoire National Superier et Musique et de Danse—Paris, the San Francisco Ballet, Chautauqua Institution, Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School, and Esalen Institute. He has performed master classes for international dance companies such as: José Limón, Margaret Jenkins, Camile A. Brown, Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, Paul Taylor, Mark Morris, ODC/SF, DV8 of London, Matthew Bourne Dance Company, the Rambert Dance Company of London, and Baryshnikov’s White Oak Project.
Venegoni is a recipient of awards and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Zellerbach Family Fund, the Missouri Arts Council, California Arts Council, and a prestigious New Work Fellowship from the Marin Arts Council.
